Examiners, students to get video tutorials

These videos are for information' purposes only so that no mistake are made by either the teachers or the students.

Mumbai: In a new move by Mumbai University, the teachers/assessors involved in the On Screen Marking (OSM) process, that is the online assessment of the answer papers, will be given a video tutorial of the process for the winter examination. Once a teacher logs into the system, an eight-minute video will be played and it cannot be skipped. A similar kind of video will be provided for the students, telling them how to fill in their details correctly on the answer booklets.

These videos are for ‘information’ purposes only so that no mistake are made by either the teachers or the students. The video for the teachers will contain steps of assessment, key answers and marking schemes, which will make the teacher understand how to assess, total the marks, place the marks and run it correctly.

On the other hand, the video for students will include information on how to stick the barcode, how to fill in details like seat number, question paper (QP) code, subject name, language preference and centre code. This will help the system to scan the papers and let it reach the concerned teachers’ system. Currently, the voice dubbing for the students’ video is taking place and it is likely to be sent to students via colleges by next week.

Apart from the video tutorial, a special one-day training workshop will be conducted by MU for all teaching and non-teaching staff and principals of affiliated colleges at locations like MU’s Fort campus, Ratnagiri, Navi Mumbai etc. The in-charge Vice Chancellor and Controller of Examination and Evaluation will demonstrate the assessment process in the workshop. “We will be telling them the guidelines that both teachers and students need to follow in order to have a smooth process. Also, we will have a question and answer session with the teachers so they can understand better,” said Dr Arjun Ghatule, in-charge controller of examination and evaluation of MU.
