25 policemen injured, 200 detained

The Mumbai police detained at around 200 persons and began the process of registering multiple FIRs against them.

Mumbai: Several members of the Republican Party of India (RPI) took to the streets and blocked road and rail traffic to enforce the bandh called by dalit leader

Prakash Ambedkar. The Mumbai police detained at around 200 persons and began the process of registering multiple FIRs against them. At least 25 police personnel including officers from two police stations, Powai and Govandi police stations were injured.

The injured police personnel were administered medical treatment at Rajawadi and Shatabdi hospitals in central suburbs. Police officials claimed that none of the personnel had sustained major injuries. The angry protesters targeted the policemen. The police has started scanning the CCTV footage to identify and nab the accused persons.

The injured include two police inspectors and constables from Powai and Govandi police station. The police did not reveal how many women personnel wereinjured in the rioting. "We are in the process of registering cases at various police stations and the details will be out after the paperwork is done," said Sachin Patil, deputy commissioner of police (headquarter I), who is also the police spokesperson.  

Cases are being registered for rioting, arson, endangering life of policemen among others.
