Probe team to examine videos
Mumbai: The video recordings could play a major role in providing inputs for the investigation of Kamala Mill Compound fire, which took lives of 14 people last week. “We are procuring before and after video footage of the mishap site so that we collect enough evidence before coming to any conclusion. Since both the pubs, where mishap happened, have been gutted, the video recordings assume greater significance in the investigation,” said a senior official of the team investigating the blaze.
Officials said that they are verifying the collected video evidence with the testimonies of eyewitnesses to ascertain what caused the fire at the pubs. Doubts have been expressed that the use of hookah or fire pyrotechnics in these pubs may have triggered the fire.
“We also have taken videos of the site now and are studying it closely. Only after a thorough investigation, we would arrive at the cause of the fire,” said the official. The fire investigation report into the incident would take few more days, he said.
Civic officials said they have appealed people to come forward for providing evidences on the fire incident. “All concerned and related to this incident can share any information, photos and videos. They can submit their say ‘orally’ to the municipal commissioner from January 8 at 2.30 pm onwards or they can also send their submissions annonymously on mc.enquiry.kamala@gmail.com or can contact on 22620525” said the official.
Meanwhile, activist Godfrey Pimenta has demanded that civic chief Ajoy Mehta should not be asked to hold an inquiry into the Kamala Mill fire. “As there are allegations of inaction on the commissioner in the Kamala Mill Compound, so he will not be able to hold a fair probe,” he said.
