Rahul Gandhi's plea for copy of video CD accepted
Mumbai: The Bhivandi magistrate court has accepted the application made by Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer to get the copy of the video CD that allegedly shows the defamatory comments made by Rahul Gandhi against RSS. The police has procured the CD from the election commission’s office.
The court has accepted the application and kept the matter for hearing on April 21. Rajesh Kunte, an RSS member from Bhivandi had filed a defamation suit against Rahul Gandhi for allegedly making defamatory comments during the 2014 Lok Sabha election campaign. According to Mr Kunte, Mr Gandhi in his speech alleged said: “Rashtriya Svyamsevak Sangh people were involved in the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.”
Mr Gandhi’s lawyer Shrikant Shivde told the court that they had not received the video CD from the complainant. “We need the copy of video CD which the EC had made during the elections. We want to check whether there is discrepancy in both the CD’s,” Mr Shivde said. He also said that he wanted all the documents before starting the case.
Initially, Mr Kunte submitted newspaper reports of Mr Gandhi’s alleged defamatory comments. Civil judge (2nd) Tushar B Waje accepted the application and kept the matter for hearing on April 21. On November 2016, the court had granted bail to Mr Gandhi.
