Mumbai: Madhya Pradesh police inspector Daulatram Jogawat (58), who successfully underwent a bariatric surgery last month, has shed 20 kilos. and currently weighing 160 kgs, Mr Jogawat, who is diabetic, now weighs 160 kg. He weighed 180 kg prior to surgery.
The Neemuch-based Mr Jogawat had been fat-shamed by writer Shobha De in a tweet last month. Ms De, a prominent socialite, had poked fun at Mr Jogawat’s obesity, after which Saifee Hospital came forward to treat him. Mr Jogawat was discharged from the hospital on March 7 and returned to Neemuch.
Mr Jogawat underwent laparoscopic banded roux en y gastric bypass surgery and was prescribed a liquid diet.
Talking to The Asian Age, he said, “I am feeling light after the bariatric surgery, as I have lost almost 20 kilograms now I am weighing 160 kg. The surgery has given me new hope, I am resting and following the diet prescribed by the hospital.”
Asked if he has resumed police work, Mr Jogawat said, “I am on sick leave for a month. I am taking bed rest and will be joining duty on April 8.”
Superintendent of police Manoj Kumar Singh, who is aware of the developments in the Jogawat case, said, “ He is doing fine and recovering well, we are supporting him morally and we have been interacting him on regular bases so that he doesn’t feel left out.”
“ Being in service it is a lesson for all us to maintain strict diet and physical fitness,” he said.
Mr Jogawat has been prescribed a healthier diet that includes leafy vegetables, fruits and fibre-based food.
