Devendra Fadnavis in no hurry to probe irrigation scam?
The court has asked the government to clarify its stand.
Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis is in no hurry to act despite a court censure of his government’s alleged failure to conduct a proper probe of the Rs 78,000-crore irrigation scam that had roiled the previous government, sources have claimed.
The Nagpur bench of the Bombay high court had slammed the government over the pace of the anti-corruption bureau investigation and warned it might institute a special investigation team to probe the scam allegedly involving former deputy CM Ajit Pawar and former irrigation minister Sunil Tatkare.
Mr Fadnavis would rather wait for the court to act as the NCP to which Mr Pawar and Mr Tatkare belong has been putting pressure on the government to go slow on the anti-corruption bureau probe, according to the sources.
The court has asked the government to clarify its stand. But Fadnavis, whose BJP milked the scam much for electoral gains, would not act, the sources said, considering NCP chief Sharad Pawar’s good relations with PM Modi.
