Devendra Fadnavis launches first U girder of Metro-7

The MMRDA has proposed to construct a network of 172-km-long Metro corridors in the Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR).

Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis launched the first U girder of the Metro-7 corridor Andheri east to Dahisar east stretch on Tuesday around 2 am. Mr Fadnavis launched the first 24.90-meter long U-girder at Pathanwadi in Malad for constructing the elevated viaduct of city’s 16.5-long Metro-7 project.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) of which Mr Fadnavis holds the post of chairman, executes majority of metro projects in the city. Mr Fadnavis also took a tour of two parallel Metro corridors namely the D.N. Nagar- Dahisar Metro-2A corridor on the Link Road and the Andheri east–Dahisar east Metro-7 corridor.

There are 1415 U-girder to be launched for the Metro-7 corridor and the weight of each girder is about 150 tons and the launch of U-girder would be done in the night hours for which the traffic department has planned to shut the northbound lanes on the Western Express Highway (WEH) in the night for few days from 12 am to 5 am.

Traffic of the northbound lane at WEH will be diverted towards the SV Road and also a single lane on the southbound lane would be kept reserved for the northbound traffic.

The MMRDA has proposed to construct a network of 172-km-long Metro corridors in the Mumbai metropolitan region (MMR). The contractors for Metro-2A and Metro-7 were appointed in May 2016. Meanwhile, many motorists took to Twitter to complain about the traffic snarls on WEH in the night.
