Mumbai: Agitations over falling prices of agricultural products reached the doorsteps of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis’ office in Mumbai on Wednesday. Workers of the women’s wing of Nationalists Congress Party, Mumbai, held a protest on the sixth floor of Mantralaya where the chief minister’s office is located.

Wednesday’s was the second consecutive day an agitation was held at Mantralaya after the Baliraja Kisan Sanghtana, a farmers organisation, held a protest before Mantralaya on Tuesday.

The NCP workers held their protest just in front of the CM’s office on the sixth floor. Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was in his office when the agitation took place. Mantralaya security personnel detained the women and later released them.

The rural parts of the state have been witnessing many agitations being held against falling prices of onions, tur and other products. Now, though, agitators have started taking the protests to Mumbai.

On Tuesday, workers of Baliraja Shetkari Sanghatana flung tur from two bags before the main gate of Mantralaya. Tur procurement has become a serious issue in the state and protests are being held in Vidarbha and Marathwada.

Bharatiya Janata Party’s alliance partner Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana has also been holding agitations in Nasik, Ahmednagar and Solapur districts over the fall in prices of onions and pomegranates.
