Thane ACB nabs 2 security personnel for taking bribe

The bribe was demanded to ensure that the complainant's father, who is in judicial custody, should not face any trouble during his stay at the jail.

Mumbai: The Thane unit of the Anti - Corruption Bureau (ACB) has arrested two security personnel attached to the Taloja jail for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant on Wednesday.

The bribe was demanded to ensure that the complainant’s father, who is in judicial custody, should not face any trouble during his stay at the jail.

Somning Kamble (27) and Mahesh Yadav (34), both working as security personnel at Taloja jail in Navi Mumbai were arrested by ACB officials after they laid a trap and caught the two accused red handed while accepting the bribe.

An officer from the Thane unit of ACB said on the condition of anonymity that Kamble and Yadav had earlier accepted the first installment of Rs 5,000, and on Wednesday evening the duo was accepting the remaining installment of Rs 15,000 from the complainant in return for ensuring safety and provision of basic amenities of his father at the jail, while he was in judicial custody.

The ACB officials are now probing if the two accused had demanded and accepted bribes from others too, in return for favours to the jail inmates. Both, Kamble and Yadav, have been charged under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, officials said.
