Bike-borne cop thrashes man with cycle chain

Nair first rushed to the hospital with his mom. After getting treatment, he went to Tilak Nagar police station and registered a FIR.

Mumbai: Tilak Nagar police has filed a complaint against a police officer and have started searching for him after he assaulted a person on the eastern expressway for not allowing him to overtake a vehicle.

The accused cop was in an inebriated state, according to the victim, and had beaten up the victim with the cycle chain he was carrying. Police officials have got the bike number of the accused police officer and have started looking for him.

According to Tilak Nagar police, the incident occurred at around 2.30 am on Saturday when the victim, identified as Pranoy Nair (26), who works as a marketing manager with a popular taxi service, was heading home after a birthday party he had been to in the western part of the city.

A Tilak Nagar police official said, “The victim is a resident of Kharghar and was returning home from a birthday party he had been to late Friday. He was on the Santacruz-Chembur link road when he heard honking from a bike rider behind him after which he made hand gestures for the bike rider to go from another lane. The bike rider, who was apparently a police officer, caught up with Nair’s car from the other side and asked Nair to open up the window, abusing him profusely. The accused then asked Nair to pull up by the side and Nair, seeing the police logo behind his bike, complied.”

The investigation officer added, “The police officer had an altercation with Nair and beat him up with a cycle wire. Later, he saw some people coming towards him and sat on his bike and fled from the spot.”

After the incident, Nair first rushed to the hospital with his mom. After getting treatment, he went to Tilak Nagar police station and registered a FIR.
