Police issues safe driving advisory

he advisory came as a reminder to motorists to keep their speed in check and avert untoward incidents.

MUMBAI: Ahead of the monsoon, Mumbai police’s Twitter handle has issued an advisory in a rather quirky way by uploading a video emphasising upon safe driving during the rainy season on account of roads that may get slippery. The advisory came as a reminder to motorists to keep their speed in check and avert untoward incidents.

On Saturday, the Mumbai police uploaded an interesting GIF (Graphic Interchange Format) image of a man sliding down the slippery road in a car, with an advisory caption that read ‘The showers will surely bring a lot of relief, but the slippery roads may be up to some mischief’. The police also captioned the image saying that everyone’s favourite time of the year is almost here, and it is indeed a good time to remind Mumbaikars to drive safely and slowly to avert any accident.

Soon after the advisory was posted, Mumbaikars started hitting back with complaints over poor maintenance and suggestions to help root out the problem. One Twitter user, Neha Kohli, commented, “The worst time of Mumbai is about to hit soon no proper drainage no roads and higways proper in normal days whn thr is so much traffic u can imagine d worst days now whn u vl be stuck in jaam fr hours abovle all Metro work on d head half roads already blocked.’ Another Twitter user commented- ‘Please enforce Strict Lane Discipline... Keep Heavy Vehicles on Left Side... especially Cleanup Trucks, Dumpers, Tippers, RMC Trucks and our favourite BEST Buses... Half the Trafic Flow Problem will be solved (sic).”

Last year, during the August 29 heavy downpour, Mumbai police’s Twitter handle and Mumbai traffic police had proven to be a great help to commuters stranded at various places during the downpour
