Sacked firemen seek backdoor entry in MBMC
Mumbai: Sixteen unqualified recruits attached to the fire and emergency service wing of the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation who were dismissed in 2012, have finally obliged the BJP-led governance to move resolution aimed at paving way for their reinstatement. The resolution will be tabled before MBMC’s general body on Wednesday.
The matter is related to massive irregularities in context to the recruitment of 92 fire personnel in 2010. The recruitment process landed into controversy over allegations of favouritism to unqualified personnel by sidelining meritorious ones.
Taking a serious note of the matter the erstwhile civic chief Vikram Kumar had sacked 16 incompetent recruits. After the order was unsuccessfully challenged in the high court and later in the labour court, the case was moved before the industrial court in 2012.
On the virtue of stay orders, the personnel managed to cling-on to their jobs for more than 5 years, till the court upheld their dismissal orders in May-2017.
“It is clearly a case of judicial contempt by the ruling governance. We will protest the move,” said Congress group leader Jubeir Inamdaar.
