Mumbai: A woman killed two of her children at her parents’ home and then committed suicide at Thane due to alleged mental and physical harassment at the hands of her husband and in-laws.

The incident took place at a housing complex on Ghodbundar Road where the deceased, Seeta Vawiva (28), had come to escape from her ordeal.

She killed her two children, both around five-year-old, and later hung herself from the ceiling. She also wrote a suicide note holding her in-laws responsible for her extreme step.

Ms Vawiva had married Raju, a garage operator and native of Rapar in Kutch district, seven years ago. After shifting to Gujarat, her in-laws allegedly started harassing her by demanding money from her parents.

Ms Vawiva’s family, in their complaint, said that she was tortured physically, about which she had confided in them.

Having suffered for long, Ms Vawiva returned to her parents’ home in Thane and continued to live with them. Meanwhile, the couple was also trying to get custody of their children, which added to her mental trauma, her family said.

Ultimately Sunday, Ms Vawiva took the extreme step when she and her children were alone at home. “She first hung both her children to death and then followed suit. They were found hanging by the ceiling. The family returned home after which the incident came to light,” said an officer of Kasarvadavali police station.

The officials have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating into the incident based on the suicide note. A team has left for Gujarat for further probe into the case.
