MMC: Suspended doctors practising illegally in state
Mumbai: The Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) has noticed that after suspension of medical practitioners for wrong practices, they continue to work as medical professionals in different states.
According to rules, doctors have to take a no-objection certificate from the MMC if they want to start practice in another state. To curb these practices, the state medical council has come up with a facility to share doctors’ data online.
According to an official, a need to take preventive measures was felt after it was noticed that some of the suspended doctors continued to practise illegally in other states. The MMC noticed that after incidents of doctors being suspended for being involved in malpractices, they started practising illegally in other states.
MMC president Dr Shivkumar Utture said, “Doctors who are cau-ght for wrongdoing and suspended by the medical council cannot pra-ctise illegally in other states now. All state councils will share inf-ormation internally. This data will come up during registrations and all councils will be immediately alerted about an individual. Suspended practitioners won’t be able to work illegally in other states.”
The state medical co-uncils have agreed to share information abo-ut the suspension of af-filiated doctors so that they cannot practise in the jurisdiction of other state councils.
