Indrani Mukerjea, Peter Mukerjea refuse to accept documents

Sheena Bora murder case trial is expected to commence from February 23.

Mumbai: Indrani Mukerjea, her husband Peter Mukerjea, and former husband Sanjeev Khanna on Saturday informed the court that they are not willing to accept even a single document submitted by the CBI in Sheena Bora murder case. This means the CBI would be required to prove each and every document by calling relevant witnesses.

Interestingly, original, attested and true copies of documents like Indrani and Peter’s will, birth certificates, marriage certificates, e-mails and messages are part of the documents submitted by the CBI.

The CBI has submitted 216 documents in the court and now, to prove them, they would be required to call witnesses for each document.

According to a CBI officer, 90 per cent documents could have been accepted by the accused, but now that they have denied the same, it would consume more time of court. A document accepted directly by the accused leads to quick and relevant verification/proof, but if the accused denies, the investigating agency is required to call witnesses for verification/proof. For example, after the accused deny, civic body officials are among some sources who are called to prove if the birth certificate, submitted by them, is genuine and if it is issued by the Municipal Corporation, and whether the accused being tried is the same person and not someone else with a similar name.

The number of witnesses to prove a single document can vary depending on the number of officials who handled it before it was issued.

Indrani, Peter and Khanna have been accused of conspiracy and murder of Sheena Bora, Indrani’s daughter from an earlier relationship. While Sheena was killed on April 24, 2012, the case came to light only in 2015 after Indrani’s driver Shyamwar

Rai was arrested with illegal firearm in his custody. During interrogation he spilled the beans about Sheena’s murder.
