Two booked for assauting traffic cops at Goregaon
Mumbai: The Goregaon police has arrested two men for allegedly beating up two traffic constables on duty at S.V. Road, Goregaon (west). The incident occurred at 8.40pm on Friday when traffic constable Prahlad Dubey (43) intercepted the two accused who were riding a two-wheeler and had jumped a signal near the S.V. Road signal.
According to a police source attached to Goregaon police station, the two accused, aged 35 and 31 respectively, allegedly got aggressive after the constable demanded to see their license and insurance papers, and fled the spot after assaulting two traffic policemen. They were on the run on their Honda Unicorn bike but were caught by traffic policemen near Andheri at 9.20pm and immediately arrested. They have been booked under section 353 for assaulting a public servant on duty.
This is the second assault on a policeman in Mumbai in the current year. Amid the spate of assaults on traffic policemen on duty by motorists and bikers without helmets and necessary documents, one such having proved fatal for traffic policeman Vilas Shinde, Mumbai police issued a circular.
Senior police inspector of Goregaon police station, Bhaskar Jadhav told The Asian Age, “We have arrested the two men for assaulting on-duty traffic constables and will take required action against them.”
