Punjab police fails to find Rakhi, returns empty-handed
Mumbai: A team of Punjab police who had come to Mumbai to arrest actor Rakhi Sawant for making derogatory comments about sage Valmiki, had to return empty handed on Tuesday after it failed to find her after three long days.
The Ludhiana police said that it had details of her old residential address and hence it allegedly failed to track her down, amidst unconfirmed reports of her being on the way to Punjab to surrender before the court.
“Our team tried to find her for three days in Mumbai with the help of the address that was with us, however, she could not be found. We have no clue about her location and have left a copy of the warrant with the Mumbai police. We will inform the court accordingly,” said Kunvar Vijay Pratap Singh, commissioner of police, Ludhiana.
None of the Mumbai police officers were available for comment on the incident.
The Ludhiana court issued an arrest warrant against Sawant on March 9, following her comments to a television channel about the poet Valmiki, the author of the Ramayana. The warrant was issued after Sawant failed to appear before the court following a complaint against her for comments.
Sawant had allegedly compared the sage with singer Mika Singh, who had forcibly kissed her. The comparison was pertaining to people transforming their lives over time. Meanwhile, Sawant was unavailable for comment when contacted by The Asian Age.
