Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s efforts to find a contractor to carry out phase one of the Flora Fountain restoration project has finally yielded result in its seventh attempt. The civic body will spend nearly Rs 3crore on the beautification of surrounding areas of the iconic structure.

The BMC had invited tenders for phase one of the project on its website as well as by publishing advertisements in newspapers.

However, it had to be re-tendered due to factors like lack of response or exorbitant rates quoted by the bidders.

On the seventh instance, the civic body received two bids, which were found suitable. Of them, the BMC has decided to allot the contract to M/s Hi-Tech Engineers at the cost of Rs 2.93 crore.

Phase one of Flora Fountain restoration project includes beautification of surrounding area, tiling, stainless steel sitting arrangements and illumination.

For the second phase, the civic body has already appointed Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) at the cost of Rs 2.35 crore.
