Mumbai: After holding a meeting with his party legislators and senior leaders over the drought at YB Chavan, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar said that chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are not considering the gravity of the drought situation in the state. He said that the government has failed to take cognisance of the drought.

Attacking PM Modi, the NCP chief said that Mr Modi should have spoken about his government's policy regarding the drought and farmers. He further said that the PM didn't take the drought seriously.

Mr Pawar said that his party would give a memorandum to CM Fadnavis in order to provide relief to the farmers. He also said that the government is providing Rs 90 to farmers each for cattle, which is not sufficient. He also demanded that special financial aid be given to students pursuing higher education in drought-affected regions. He reminded that during their regime, they had provided two meals to the students of higher education in Marathwada. The government had waived their fees.

He also said that all types of recovery should be stopped and farmer’s loan should be restructured.

In order to tackle the drought, three measures including drinking water, employment and cattle camps need to be taken. . If the crops have been damaged, the farmers would need to be helped out.
