NGO writes to JICA, expresses concerns over Aarey car shed

JICA has given a loan of $2036 million (Rs 13, 235 crores, which is 57 per cent of the total amount), to the project.

Mumbai: A city-based NGO has written to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), which is funding the Seepz-Colaba Metro-3 project, about the alleged environmental violations in the construction of the Metro-3 car shed and called for it being moved out of Aarey milk colony.

JICA has given a loan of $2036 million (Rs 13, 235 crores, which is 57 per cent of the total amount), to the project.

The NGO submitted that the violations were not in consonance with Japan’s environmental policies and could sully their international reputation.

Empower Foundation submitted a report to JICA highlighting the seven misrepresentations of Mumbai Metro in their EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment), which MMRC allegedly submitted for a subsidised loan.
