Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s road show did not help the BJP to retain their seats in Mumbai, the financial capital of the Country. Out of six seats in Mumbai, the BJP was only able to retain the North Mumbai seat, represented by Union Minister Piyush Gopal. The four seats were won by Shiv Sena (UBT) and Congress. Eknath Shinde led Shiv Sena candidate Ravindra Waikar won at Mumbai North West constituency.

On May 15, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a grand roadshow in Ghatkopar, which falls in Mumbai North East Lok Sabha seat. Mr. Modi was accompanied by Mumbai North East BJP candidate Mihir Kotecha and Mumbai North Central constituency BJP candidate Ujjwal Nikam. Both candidates lost in a close contest.

BJP's star campaigner and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had campaigned for Mr Nikam in Mumbai North Central constituency. But it did not help Mr Nikam.

Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Sanjay Dina Patil defeated Mr Kotecha in Mumbai North East constituency by 29,861 votes. In Mumbai North Centra, Congress candidate Varsha Gaikwad defeated Mr. Nikam by less than 5,000 votes.

Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Arvind Sawant defeated Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) candidate Yamini Jadhav to win the high profile South Mumbai seat. Another Shiv Sena UBT candidate Anil Desai drubbed Shiv Sena sitting MP Rahul Shewale in Mumbai South Central constituency.

Eknath Shinde led Shiv Sena demanded recounting at Mumbai North West constituency, where Amol Kirtikar was announced winner. Following this, the recounting was held and Mr. Waikar won by 48 votes. Now, Kritikar has demanded a recount of the votes.

While Union minister Piyush Goyal won Mumbai North seat by the margin of over 3.50 lakh votes, Shiv Sena candidate Ravindra Waikar defeated Shiv Sena (UBT) candidate Amol Kirtikar by mere 48 votes in the neighbouring Mumbai North West seat. Initially Kirtikar was declared victorious. However, Waikar demanded recounting after which he was declared winner by mere 48 votes.
