Mumbai: Law students are in a spot, thanks to the university of Mumbai not having declared final year results till Friday. Students who appeared for final year Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) examinations in April-May are desperately awaiting their results as the last day for applying for LL.B common entrance test is Wednesday.

In the event final year results are not declared by Wednesday, students will not be able to appear for this test, thereby losing one academic year. CET is an entrance test for B.A. final year students interested in pursuing a career in law.

Mumbai university sources said that the varsity had put its entire focus on B.Com. results as its aim was to declare those results first. Also, students needed their graduation marks to complete the form filling process for the entrance test.

“As results have not been declared and the deadline is nearing, students are entering ‘average’ marks i.e. 45 just to complete filling the form. By doing this, there is a risk of their forms being rejected in case their average marks and original marks do not match,” said Sachin Pawar, president, students’ law council.

Aishwarya Shedge, a student who wants to appear for the CET exam for LL.B., said, “In order to complete the procedure, some of my friends and me put 45 marks against our graduation marks because we don’t want to lose the year in case the deadline passes and results are not declared.”

Meanwhile, another student Mohsin Shaikh (name changed to protect identity) has been removed from his hostel as according to rules, upon completion of the three-year course, students need to move from their current hostel to another hostel near the college from where they would be doing their LL.B.

“Because my results are not declared, I don’t know how to and where to apply. Hence, some of my friends and me have been removed from the hostel,” he said. Mohsin is now staying in Pune as he does not have anywhere to go to in Mumbai.

Other such students belong to Beed, Osmanabad, Nanded and Aurangabad in Maharashtra.
