Man arrested for lip lock with government staffer at CST

The woman was waiting to take a train back home to Navi Mumbai.

Mumbai: In yet another incident of a woman being targeted at the busy Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) station, a pervert went up to a state government staffer during peak hours and kissed her.

The accused spotted the woman, who works as an assistant director in the Maharashtra Finance and Accounts Services (MFAS), following which he held her hand and smooched her in full public view.

The woman was waiting to take a train back home to Navi Mumbai.

After the incident, commuters caught the accused and thrashed him before handing him over to the GRP.

The accused has been identified as Shankar Nair (26) a pavement dweller from right outside the terminal.

“Nair is a pervert and works as a daily wager. He was in the station when he spotted the woman. She was chitchatting with an office colleague in the main hall area of the station. Nair went up to her, held her hand and kissed her,” said a GRP officer from CSMT.

The woman was stunned but mustered the presence of mind to raise an alarm. The railway police personnel, who were patrolling the station heard her cries and rushed to the spot immediately.

Nair was brought to the GRP office and placed under arrest. The police have registered a case under sections 354 (molestation) and 509 (outraging modesty of women) against Nair, who hails from Gulbarga in Karnataka. They could not find any past case against him as yet. He was produced before a railway court that remanded him to police custody till August 16 for further investigation.

However, the incident was not captured by any of the multiple CCTV cameras put up at the sensitive terminal, pointing to the fact that there are still dark spots in the camera positions there.
