Cocaine, MDMA seized from Jogeshwari
Mumbai: In two separate incidents, the police seized banned drugs cocaine and MDMA (ecstasy) worth Rs 38.74 lakh and arrested two persons, including one of African origin. The African national, who was peddling cocaine, was apprehended from Sahakar road in Jogeshwari on Monday night with 472 gram cocaine worth Rs 37.76 lakh in his possession.
Acting on a tip-off, the Amboli police team laid a trap at Sahakar road. At around 12.55am, they spotted Femi Olyuyanka Opayemi (29) hanging around suspiciously. Upon questioning, Opayemi gave evasive answers. The cops frisked him and found him carrying a white powder, which was later ascertained to be cocaine. The police are in the process of procuring his passport to establish the type of visa he possesses.
In the other incident, an Anti-Narcotics Cell team arrested Salim Nawab Khan, alias Salim Talwar (56), a resident of V.P. Road area, for possession of MDMA.
“When assistant inspector Kadam approached Khan and sought clarity on the latter’s suspicious activity, he failed to give convincing answers. The police then checked his bag and found 14 gram of MDMA (ecstasy). He was detained,” said an ANC officer. Two separate cases have been filed against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
