Virar extension to begin from Versova

The extension will begin from Versova, passing through the Manori creek.

Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is planning to extend the sea link project up to Virar. A freeway of 52 km is being proposed and its feasibility will be checked soon. The extension will begin from Versova, passing through the Manori creek.

“The economic feasibility for this extension will be prepared to examine the funds required for implementing the project. Later we will begin with the tendering for it,” said Radheshyam Mopalwar, vice chairman of MSRDC. He further added, “Once operational, motorists will not need to take Ghodbunder road to reach Virar. They can also reach the Ahmedabad Expressway.”

The proposed corridor will have interchanges at Madh Island, Kandivali, Gorai, Vasai etc. “The coastal road plans will have chances of getting tweaked with the extension plan,” said a MSRDC official.

The entry for the corridor is proposed at Malad Marve Road, Gorai Road, Agashi road (Virar west) etc. According to the current plans, a creek bridge on the Manori creek will also be the part of the corridor.
