Police books 4 fake developers
Mumbai: The RAK Marg police registered a case of cheating after four persons posed as property developers and cheated few persons worth several crores by promising to build a cooperative housing society at Dadar.
The police said that the accused forged allotment papers and made fake brochures of the project named Rupa Reh Aariana that they claimed to be coming up at Jerabai Wadia Road in Dadar.
The accused persons cheated Khuspat Jain (47) and others by promoting the bogus housing project between 2014 and November 2018, the police said. The accused stated that M/s Taili Realty LSP was undertaking the project and they claimed to be their directors.
“The accused approached Jain and others and introduced Rupa Reh Aariyana project at Dadar seeking investment in the property by them. Jain, the complainant in the case, paid '5.44 crores to the accused. Others have also made payments to them,” said an officer of the RAK Marg police station.
The group had printed fake brochures and blue print of the housing project that was also shown to the victims to win their confidence.
The gang had the allotment papers, which they issued to the victims after the money was paid. The accused fled after cheating them, police said.
The police are trying to track down the accused and are probing if the project exists and if so, whether they were associated with it. The officials are recording statements of the victims and gathering details of the plot CS-177 located at Jerabai Wadia Road where the project was stated to be taking shape.
A case has been registered against the accused persons for forgery, cheating, forging documents and acts of common intention of the Indian Penal Code. The police are also looking for more victims in the case.
