Government to streamline staff through database

The move will benefit employees who have been working in the same department for long periods.

Mumbai: In a major exercise to streamline the employee database, the finance and planning department has decided to maintain an Employee Master Database (EMDb) that will not only give an overall employee status but also enable the state government to reduce corrupt practices and provide timely incentives.

According to the circular issued on December 3 to all government departments and its subsidiaries, the finance and planning department has asked employees to register themselves on the portal started for the same. The information that employees will be required to provide includes their employee id, name of department, pan card details, name, date of birth, date of joining service, retirement date, gender, age, caste, religion, among others.

When asked about the same, a senior official from the finance and planning department said that in the past getting information about employees from the individual department was time consuming and they faced a lot of problems in trying to ascertain the strength of the department. “After all employees register themselves on EMDb, it will become easier to keep track of them as well as provide them the facilities, incentives and promotions they are eligible for,” said the official.

The move will benefit employees who have been working in the same department for long periods. Those who have completed 12 years and 24 years will be getting promotions as stipulated by the government rules. It will also make paying salaries easier and calculating pension accruing to the employees.

The different departments have also been asked to use the EMDb to provide details of the number of employees in their departments as well as the vacant posts. The details will be provided to the finance departments to ensure ease of withdrawal and disbursement of dues to the employees.
