Mumbai: Students of a pre-primary school along with their parents and a few residents of Squatters Colony and social activists of Goregaon and Malad area, held an agitation on Sunday demanding compensation for a four-year-old child who was injured in an acid attack in Goregaon area.
Adarsh along with his parents Chandan and Chandani was a victim of an acid attack on November 29. The Dindoshi police has arrested a couple Ashfaque Morab (40) and Sabira Shaikh (36) in connection with the case, while one accused is absconding. The police arrested the couple after Chandan and Chandani blamed them in their police statement. The duo is now in police custody. Police officers said the reason behind the acid attack is not clear and they are investigating it. The rally was carried out by students of Brilliant Pre-Primary School, where Adarsh is a student.
According to police sources, the acid attack took place around 2.30 am on November 29, when Chandan Singh, who works in a bangles plating workshop, was sleeping in his house in Squatters Colony with his wife and son. Morab allegedly threw acid on the family from a open window of their house.
Chandan sustained 85 percent burns in the incident, while Adarsh suffered burns on his face and Savita sustained burns on her hands and stomach. The family is being treated in Kasturba Hospital. Chandan has lost his eyesight due to the attack.
Yusuf Bandhukia, a resident of the same locality, said, “The fight was between Sabira and Chandan but the little kid is suffering due to the private issues of adults. So we demanded compensation and immediate justice for the child.”
