Mumbai: Although the cause of fire at Goregaon east is yet unknown, officials suspect it to be man-made. Fire brigade team stated that there were no casualties of human and animals. The investigation report will be submitted within a week.

“Locals have stated th-at some anti-social elements keep coming to the area and burn dry le-aves at the spot. It is not certain that if they are sent with some vested in-terest,” said a forest department official.

Officials also asserted that the site belongs to a private developer and the jurisdiction does not lie within the forest dep-artment. “It was in the vicinity of Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), hence we sent our team to help in controlling the fire,” he said.

“The cause of fire is yet unknown. An investigation will be done on the matter and a report will be submitted within a week,” said Prabhat Rahangdale, chief fire officer, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
