Missing cop's kin to move court for tests on accused
Mumbai: API Ashwini Bidre’s family will move the sessions court, seeking brain mapping, lie detector and narco tests of the two accused, suspended Thane Rural PI Abhay Kurundkar and Rajesh Patil, who have been arrested by Kalamboli police on charges of kidnapping.
This comes after the Panvel court rejected the appeal to conduct these tests on the accused. Bidre, who was posted at Belapur, has been missing since April 2016.
On December 7, the Navi Mumbai police had arrested Kurundkar, followed by the arrest of Patil, nephew of former finance minister Eknath Khadse on December 11. Bidre, who was posted with the Protection of Civil Rights unit at Konkan Bhavan at Belapur, has been missing from her residence at Roadpali at Kalamboli since April 15, 2016.
The Call Detail Records of Patil, Kurundkar and Bidre show that they were at the same place on the day she was last seen. Anand Bidre brother of API Ashwini Bidre has alleged that accused Kurundkar is responsible behind his sister’s disppearance.
The investigation officer said, “ Both the accused, who have been arrested, are not cooperating with the investigation. It is not yet clear why both accused were on the same spot from where Ashwini went missing.”
Anand Bidre said, “We don’t have any other option but to ask for permission for all these tests. The police is working hard to get the information from the accused, but no one is giving any appropriate answers. We are appealing to the sessions court and the high court to get permission for the same.”
Navi Mumbai’s Kalamboli police had found a letter written by API Ashwini Bidre, addressed to Kurundkar saying, “May your wish to kill me by breaking my bones come true.” It was recovered from her residence, as it was never posted.
A week ago, the police had arrested Kurundkar in the case over suspicions that he played a role in her disappearance.
