Police detains 60 in Lonavala double murder case probe

According to sources, the police is about to solve the case though it has not arrested anybody yet.

Pune: Two days since the murder of two engineering students in Lonavala shocked the state, the police has detained 60 people who can be helpful in solving the case. According to sources, the police is about to solve the case though it has not arrested anybody yet.

On Monday, the bodies of the students from Sinhgad Institute of Engineering were found at an isolated place near Bhushi dam in Lonavala. The deceased were identified as Sarthak Dilip Waghchoure (22) from Rahuri Ahmadnagar and Shruti Sanjay Dombare (21) from Junnar, Pune district.

Dnaneshwar Shivtare, deputy superintendent, Lonavala said, “We have been working hard to nab the killers since Monday when we found the bodies in a decomposed state. We have detained 60 people for the probe. Eight teams comprising police inspectors and cyber crime authorities have been sent across the state to search for clues and the killers. Twelve police inspectors, senior officials, additional superintendent of police Rajkumar Shinde, Kolhapur inspector general Vishwas Nangare Patil and four deputy superintendents have been in Lonavala to solve the case.”

He added, “As post-mortem report revealed that the girl wasn’t sexually assaulted. And the parents of the couple were aware of their relationship and had no problems with it. Their cell phones are missing but we are getting their call records from the cyber crime cell.”

He added, “We are about to crack the case but we cannot disclose any details.”
