Shiv Sena slams Maharashtra government over farmers' stir
Mumbai: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ally, Shiv Sena has slammed the BJP-led Maharashtra government over the ongoing farmers’ stir in the state. The Saamana editorial alleged that the state government has tried to create a rift among the farmers in an attempt to break their unity. “Had the demands of the farmers been accepted, they would have showered the chief minister with flowers. But the state government tried to break them through the minister of state Sadabhau Khot,” said Shiv Sena's mouthpiece.
Shiv Sena has also supported Maharashtra bandh called by farmers' organisations on Monday. “Instead of trying to break farmers’ unity, the BJP should have kept the word it gave in the manifesto,” read the Saamana editorial.
“Farmers need a complete loan waiver. If the BJP keeps its word on Swaminathan Commission and milk rates, then farmer leaders should call off their strike. But the chief minister didn't accept anything. This pushed the situation to a worse level,” the editorial read.
The Saamana editorial also slammed farmer leader Jayaji Suryavanshi who mediated between the state government and the farmers’ organisations. “Now, Mr Suryavanshi should go everywhere because he is the only one who says farmers' demands have been accepted. By breaking the unity of farmers, Fadnavis could have saved his chair but damaged farmers dreams,” the editorial further added.
