Teacher who 'forged' nikah nama seeks bail
Mumbai: The Arabic teacher arrested for allegedly helping Aman Khanna create a false nikah nama as proof of marriage between Khanna and a veteran actress, has applied for bail in the sessions court.
Advocate Arif Siddiqui, on behalf of the accused teacher, Qari Gausul Vara Hashmat Ansari (54), contended before the court that his client was innocent and had not done anything illegal.
Advocate Siddiqui argued in court that Ansari had been charged with forgery and the case against him was based on documentary evidence, which had already been seized by the investigating officer. As nothing was required to be recovered from Ansari, no purpose was being served by keeping him behind bars.
The defence further pointed out that had Ansari done something illegal, he would have received money for the same but the fact that he had not received any money and no monetary transaction reflected in his bank account showed that he was not involved in the case.
According to the prosecution, Ansari helped prime accused Khanna alias Sarfaraz (38) obtain a fake nikah nama which Khanna allegedly used to rape a veteran actress on whose complaint Khanna was arrested.
Later, the police also arrested Ansari. Unit nine of the crime branch is investigating the case and has claimed that Khanna cheated the actress of over Rs 15 crore on different occasions.
