Police say property developers met Dawood Ibrahim, Anees Ibrahim in Dubai
Mumbai: The two property developers named in the third extortion case registered against Iqbal Kaskar, Dawood Ibrahim and Anees Ibrahim by the Thane crime branch, are suspected to have met Dawood and Anees in Dubai. The accused, who is yet to be arrested, made multiple trips to Dubai in the past few years and it is suspected that on one such trip they met Dawood. The fugitive gangster is believed to make occasional visits to the UAE from his Karachi hideout, according to the police.
The wanted accused has been identified as Bharat Jain and his passport is being scanned for details of their overseas trips. The cops had learnt about his visits to Dubai and their involvement in the extortion case involving the 38 acres land parcel in Gorai. The complainant in the case had paid Rs 2 crore to the owner Tony Lewis, but then received threat calls from Anees and other D-gang henchmen asking him to back off from the deal and pay Kaskar Rs 1 crore more if he wanted to stay alive. “As per our investigation, the accused had been to Dubai on several occasions and visited the office of Anees Ibrahim there. He run legitimate businesses, including property development in Dubai, and have their offices where aides drop in to meet them,” said a crime branch officer.
The official said the accused also had a word with Dawood during one of their visits. There is a strong suspicion he had met Dawood in person when he was in Dubai to attend a family function.
“He is being looked for and the details of his trips and who all they met will be clear only after he is arrested. The focus is currently on the second case targeting the jeweller,” said the officer.
Meanwhile, Pankaj Gangar, arrested in the extortion cases involving Kaskar, was remanded to further police custody for four days.
He was arrested by the anti-extortion cell on September 28.
