Government to pre-empt Opposition on Maratha reservation issue
Nagpur: Intending to pre-empt the Opposition on Maratha reservation issue, the ruling party is going to bring a resolution on Tuesday in the Assembly ahead of the Maratha protest that is scheduled for December 14 in Nagpur.
The Opposition has been focusing on the issues of demonetisation and Maratha reservation to attack the government. However, the government has decided to counterattack the Congress and NCP and bringing a resolution on Maratha reservation in the Assembly. A senior BJP minister said that the government would raise the Maratha reservation issue in the House on Tuesday and explain what measures it had taken on the same.
“The matter is in the court. The affidavit prepared by the government would make the demand strong before the court. We are going to put forth our side on the issue and also show how the Congress-NCP collectively failed to get reservation,” the minister said on condition of anonymity.
Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had already expressed his opinion in favour of Maratha reservation on the eve of the winter session of the legislature. However, the Opposition had alleged he delayed the process and failed to pacify the community.
Also, Maratha organisations are carrying out a protest in Nagpur on December 14 to push for their demands such as reservation and diluting the Atrocity Act, among others.
Sources in the Congress said that it was a deliberate act by the government so that there won’t be any discussion on the issue and no one can ask questions to the
government.
