State files affidavit, lists out steps taken on malnutrition

The government had complied with the court directions and had chalked out comprehensive measures for implementation in tribal areas.

Mumbai: Following the Bombay high court order to the state to file a response on the measures it has been taking to curb rising instances of malnutrition deaths in Melghat region, the state filed an affidavit on Monday detailing steps taken and planned by the government.

The division bench headed by Justice V.M. Kanade had pulled up the state last month following a clutch of petitions praying for directions to the state to initiate immediate measures to curb rising instances of malnutrition-related deaths in the Melghat region and other tribal areas. Mr Kanade had rapped the government and asked it to file an affidavit enumerating the measures taken by it to improve coordination between government departments and also put in place a mechanism to ensure effective implementation of policies.

The affidavit filed by the state on Monday through acting advocate general Mohit Deo said that the government had complied with the court directions and had chalked out comprehensive measures for implementation in tribal areas.
