Teachers take to youtube to shed light on process
Mumbai: In order to educate parents about the various processes involved in the admissions under the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, the teachers of municipal schools in Andheri have created a YouTube video, titled ‘RTE 25% admission scheme’.
The video highlights the step-by-step details of how to apply for admissions on the state government website. “The video explains the eligibility criteria , documents required and ways to fill the online form,” said a teacher of a civic school at Andheri.
“Many parents, who wish to enrol their child under the RTE fail to do so because the process is done online and there are certain formalities that need to be followed,” she added.
“Last year, we heard several complaints from parents that the process was tough and even silly mistakes were leading to applications getting disqualified. Hence, the idea of a video and small seminars for parents was thought about,” said another teacher.
The teachers, along with screening the video for parents, will visit different localities to find such parents and tell them about their rights. Mahesh Palkar, civic education officer said, “We used to do it earlier but it was not possible for us to reach every parent. Involving the teachers and the administrative officers of each ward will help us in letting people know of their rights.”
