MMRDA officials awaiting spare parts for monorail
Mumbai: While the monorail service has faced technical glitches from day one of its operations, the MMRDA has the tough task of ensuring the proper maintenance of rakes and keeping the maximum number of rakes on track. Officials said that while some of the spare parts are always in short supply, there are some unique spare parts that need to be imported and are yet to arrive from different countries.
The MMRDA officials are eagerly awaiting these spare parts so that they can make a few more mo-no trains available on track. This will not only increase frequency but also help make available a standby train in time of need. A MMRDA official said, “Spare parts are not easily available for monorail. A few spare parts are very unique. There are a few manufacturers in the market. We can wait for these manufacturers to send the spare parts. Spa-re parts come from Japan and Malaysia. Logistics is also important for the arrival of spare parts.”
MMRDA officers and engineers are awaiting more spare parts, within one and a half month of the arrival of which, there will be three more trains available to run on track.
In the meantime, Dilip Kavathakar, spokesperson of MMRDA, termed the news of monorail services being impacted a rumour. He said that services on both the phases were running smoothly. According to the MMRDA, there is a monorail train after every 20 minutes.
