Fourteen sitting legislators, 1 cabinet minister in poll fray

The Congress has fielded four sitting legislators, while the NCP has given 2 seats to its sitting legislators.

Mumbai: Fourteen sitting legislators and one Maharashtra cabinet minister are contesting the Lok Sabha elections in the state. In the Aurangabad Lok Sabha seat, four members of the state Legislature — Congress MLA Abdul Sattar, AIMIM-Aghadi candidate Imtiyaz Jaleel, independent candidate Harshvardhan Jadhav, and Congress MLC Subhash Zambad, who is the official candidate of the party— are contesting against each other.

The Congress has fielded four sitting legislators, while the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has given two tickets to its sitting legislators. The Samajwadi Party has also fielded its sitting MLA from Uttar Pradesh, Subhash Pasi, from the Mumbai north-west seat. Mr Pasi represents the Saidpur Assembly constituency in the Gazipur district in Uttar Pradesh. The CPI (M) has fielded seven-time MLA Jiva Pandu Gavit (69) from the Dindori Lok Sabha seat. Mr Gavit is the sitting MLA from Kalwan constituency.

A Congress leader said, “If Mr Sattar does not withdraw his nomination from Aurangabad, the party will initiate disciplinary action against him.”

The NCP has fielded party MLA Sangram Jagtap in Ahmednagar and sitting MLA Rana Jagjit Singh Patil in Osmanabad.

The Congress has fielded Suresh alias Balu Dhanorkar from the Chandrapur Lok Sabha constituency. Mr Dhanorkar, who was the sitting legislator of the Shiv Sena from Warora, quit from all party posts and sent in his resignation as a legislator to the Assembly speaker.

The Congress had fielded Kunal Rohidas Patil from the Dhule Lok Sabha seat. Kunal is the sitting MLA from the Dhule rural Assembly constituency. Similarly, the party gave a ticket to Kagda Chandya (K.C.) Padvi from Nandurbar. Mr Padvi is the sitting MLA from Akkalkuwa in Nandurbar district.

The BJP has formally fielded Pratap Patil Chikhalikar, who is the Shiv Sena MLA from Loha, for the Nanded Lok Sabha seat. Mr Chikhalikar will contest against Congress sitting MP Ashok Chavan. The party fielded Unmesh Patil, who is the sitting MLA from Chalisgaon, from the Jalgaon Lok Sabha seat.
