Railways carries out preventive measures ahead of monsoon

The WR is also conducting the videography of the cleaning work.

MUMBAI: In bid to run suburban train services uninterrupted during the upcoming monsoon, Central Railway (CR) and Western Railway (WR) have taken several measures including the cleaning up of culverts, de-silting and raising of tracks.

The WR is also conducting the videography of the cleaning work so that if the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plays the blame game during monsoon, the WR will have proofs of the work done by them.

Ravinder Bhakar, chief public relation officer, WR, said, “The critical culverts have already been identified. The cleaning work has already strated.”

Divisional railway manager of CR’s Mumbai Division, S.K. Jain on Thursday said that the CR is taking many initiatives to avoid passengers inconvenience during this monsoon like building culverts at identified locations, removal of foundation and cables, drone survey of ghat forboulders identification among others.

Chief spokesperson of CR, Sunil Udasi, said, “We are adopting strategies to ensure no or minimal disruption to rail traffic during this monsoon. By now we have already attended all the 27 critical locations.”
