Maha Congress to hold review meet on May 10
Mumbai: The Maharashtra unit of the Congress will be holding a review meeting on May 10 to discuss the drought situation in the state. The party will also take stock of the political climate in the state during the meeting.
Maharashtra Congress president Ashok Chavan said that party workers had been working on ground and would be submitting their reviews to the state leadership. The BJP-led state government in October last year declared drought in 151 talukas of the state. “In the meeting, party leaders and workers from drought-hit areas will submit their feedback to the state leadership. They will discuss the situation and ways to help the affected people,” Mr Chavan told reporters here Monday.
The Congress will further look into the ongoing Lok Sabha elections and deliberate on preparations for the state Assembly polls due later this year. Mr Chavan criticised the state government for initiating sale of bonds worth Rs 1,500 crore at 8.15 per cent interest when the Assembly polls were just a few months away. “This is an outgoing government which is leaving a debt of more than Rs 5 lakh crore. What is its repaying capacity? Is it correct to issue bonds worth Rs 1,500 crore when the code of conduct will be enforced again in four months? This is not as per democratic norms. What is the urgency?” he questioned.
According to the government, the funds received will be invested in development programmes for the state.
