MUMBAI: An 18-year-old boy, Murti Subramanium drowned in the Juhu Beach on Wednesday evening after he went for a swim with his friend. Boy did not know swimming and hence could not tackle the high tide, said sources. Life-guards spotted Subramanium and his friend Chandu Sarvenayar, who is also a non-swimmer, in trouble and rushed to rescue them. While Subraman-ium could not be saved, Sarvenayar was rescued by the life-guards.

According to the lifeguards, the incident took place on Wednesday evening between 5-5.30 pm, and the rescue operation was completed by 6 pm. “The boys did not know how to swim and moreover they were playing around in an isolated part of the beach where it is prohibited to even enter the water due to its risk,” said a lifeguard.

Despite the alerts, warning issued by the authority, youngsters often embark on a water adventure that turns out to be fatal, stated the lifeguard.
