Board blames students for failing HSC exams
MUMBAI: Amidst some parents and students blaming Jogeshwari’s Ismail Yusuf College for failing 154 Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) science stream students, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE), Mumbai division, has set the record straight by blaming the students for flunking the exams.
On Monday, some parents and students had protested outside Ismail Yusuf College, claiming that the college did not send the students’ internal component marks (including attendance, viva exams and internal tests) to the state board. However, the college rubbished all such allegations, maintaining that it had done its duty.
On Tuesday, Subhash Bhorse, in-charge secretary, MSBSHSE, Mumbai division, told The Asian Age, “The moment we were notified about this incident, Tuesday morning, we checked the mark sheets that were submitted by the college. All the internal marks have been added to the aggregate marks and even then, around 154 students’ marks do not make it to the average marks, which is why they have failed. They failed because they scored less marks in the aggregate total and only they are responsible for it and not the college.”
Principal of Ismail Yusuf College, Swati Wavhal, said, “A broadsheet will be released on June 12 by the board office which will make things clear about this confusion.”
A broadsheet (given to colleges by the board), unlike the mark sheet that is provided to students, has split-up marks of each student.
