Inter-faith couple commits suicide as kin against love affair

The police are now in the process of recording statements of their family members.

Mumbai: A couple allegedly committed suicide inside their car in Mulund early on Wednesday, following resistance from their families to their relationship on religious grounds. The car was found parked outside the Mulund court with its headlights on. On finding the couple motionless, a few passers-by informed the police.

According to the police, the deceased identified as Manisha Singh Neni and her boyfriend Salman Khan were in a relationship since past five years. The families of the couple knew about their relationship but were against it. The two met after work on Tuesday night and went to Mulund in Khan’s Lancer car. They parked the car outside the Mulund court between 3.30 am and 6 am and consumed poison to end their lives. After the couple did not respond to the knocks on the door, the police broke open the window to unlock the door. The bodies were rushed to the Agarwal hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.

“The couple left the headlights on and succumbed soon after. The morning walkers saw the duo lying motionless in the car and subsequently informed the police,” said Keshav Kasar, inspector of Mulund police station.

The Mulund police said that the duo had left their homes since past one week however their families had not lodged a missing person’s complaint. The bodies have been sent for autopsy at Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar.The officials said that the girl worked in the sales department at R Mall in Mulund and Khan worked at a garment shop. The police are now in the process of recording statements of their family members.

“What had to happen has happened and we do not want to file any complaint. We have lost both of them,” family members of the deceased told the Mulund police.
