Tribal committee to meet govt officials in Tadvi suicide case

A NCST official said that the team is already in Mumbai and the chairman will reach Thursday.

Mumbai: A committee comprising five members of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) is in Mumbai to meet top government officials and the management of civic-run Nair Hospital regarding the suicide of Dr Payal Tadvi.

The team, led by NCST chairman Nand Kumar Sai, will have detailed discussions and meetings with top administration and police officials, including the Maharashtra chief secretary, secretary (health) and Mumbai police commissioner, on June 8, said sources.

The commission will also meet the managing director of T.N. Topiwala National Medical College and the management of Nair Hospital in connection with the Dr Tadvi suicide case.

A NCST official said that the team is already in Mumbai and the chairman will reach Thursday.

The commission had earlier issued notices to the Maharashtra chief secretary, health secretary, Mumbai police commissioner and Nair Hospital authorities, seeking a response from them in 10 days.

On Wednesday, parents of the accused met panel members to record their statements. Speaking on behalf of their daughters, they said the allegations are false and the three “were only responding to work pressure”.
