Soon, app to give nod for Id goat sacrifice
Mumbai: Acting on the Bombay high court’s dissatisfaction over issuing permission with details of persons applying for sacrificing goats and sheep during Bakri-Id, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is developing a mobile application to address the same. The app will be launched on August 21, when the Deonar animal market opens for selling livestock for sacrifice.
The app will need applicants to key in their ID proof details to secure permission for animal sacrifice during ID, and applicants will immediately receive the permit.
Last year, the high court had expressed dissatisfaction over issuance of receipt as permission for sacrificing animals without details of purchaser and without signature of any BMC authority. Now, people will need to give any of their ID proof details on the app to get permission. “The app would be ready within a fortnight and would be launched on August 21, the same day when Deonar abattoir would be opened for the public to purchase goats and sheep for Bakri-Id,” said Dr Yogesh Shetye, general manager of Deonar abattoir.
“The app is developed for ease of operations of issuing temporary licence for three days of Id,” said Mr Shetye, adding that the idea of developing the app came after meetings with the municipal commissioner and other senior civic body officials.
The court had made the observation while hearing a dispute between a few society members who were objecting to sacrificing of goats in their society. Though the court had allowed sacrificing goats, it had noted that the licence issued by BMC had incomplete particulars. The judge was also dissatisfied with the answer that it was not possible to verify and write descriptions of lakhs of individuals buying goats and sheep. Around 2.5 lakh goats and sheep are sold every year from Deonar abattoir for sacrificing on Bakri Id.
With the new mobile app, anybody will be immediately able to get temporary licence for sacrificing goats and sheep for three days by typing in any of their ID proof details. The applicant can give details of his/her Aadhaar, driving licence, voter ID or any other document number and get a licence in three steps.
