Mumbai: Barely a couple of days after the BMC warned Ganesh Mandals that not a single pandal will be erected without permission, Shiv Sena – the ruling party in the civic body has come forward to their support. Alleging that mandals are being targeted un-fairly, the Sena leaders have asked the BMC to halt the action immediately.

A delegation of Sena leaders and corporators, led by MLC Anil Parab, called upon civic chief Ajoy Mehta on Monday and urged him to stop BMC’s action against Ganesh Mandals.

“Under the name of law, the BMC has been taking action against mandals and idol makers. If it is not stopped, the law and order situation in the city will deteriorate during the festive season,” said Sena leader, Anil Parab.

Several Mandals, which have been celebrating the festival for more than 100 years, have been issued notices by the BMC. Is the civic body creating a situation like West Bengal, where chief minister Mamata Banerjee took anti-Hindu stand during Navratri? Putting restrictions on Hindu festivals will send a wrong message. It will lead to a law and order situation, he added.

Instead of acting against the metro work, BMC is taking action only against Hindu festivals, said Mr Parab.
