State planning to build MTDC resort in Ladakh
Tourism development minister Jaykmur Rawal made an announcement in this regard on Tuesday.

Mumbai: Tourists from Maharashtra may soon get a chance to stay in Ladakh in a resort owned by their state. With Centre revoking the Article 370, which provided special status to Jammu and Kashmir, the state government wants to set up a tourist resort in Ladakh.
Tourism development minister Jaykmur Rawal made an announcement in this regard on Tuesday. The official decision regarding this will be taken soon, he said.
“We would like to purchase land and set up an MTDC (Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation) resort in Ladakh. Sizable number of tourists visit Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir every year and with abrogation of Article 370, I think we can officially set up a resort,” said Mr Rawal.
After the Centre decided to revoke some provisions of the Article 370 of the Constitution, the bar on outsiders from buying land in Jammu and Kashmir is expected to cease to exist. The Centre has also proposed to turn Ladakh into a Union Territory.
“The resort will be as modern as those developed by MTDC in Maharashtra. Official decision will be taken soon,” Mr Rawal said.
The tourism minister launched MTDC’s booking facility at the Mantralaya, the state government’s headquarters.
The facility will offer discounts to government officials, he said.
According to the scheme, the government employees, who are availing leave travel allowance, will get 25 per cent discount on the booking of five days in a MTDC resort.
