Mumbai: With cable operators switching over to broadband Internet services, an ugly feud has erupted. The Bhayandar police has registered a FIR against five people including former deputy mayor Steven Mendonca and his relative over charges of theft and exerting pressure for extortion. However, no arrests have been made so far.

The duo run a cable-net company in the region. The police lodged the case after Vipul Kamdar of Easy Net, an Internet service providing company, registered a complaint against the duo and two others for stealing relay devices and issuing threats aimed at preventing the complainant’s network from making a foothold in the city.

Mr Kamdar has a valid license to provide Internet services in the segment legally. Despite repeated attempts, the ex-deputy mayor was not reachable for comments.

“The employees seem to have threatened the complainant in the name of an accused. However, the charges are yet to be confirmed as there has been no direct conversation between the two. An FIR has been registered, and investigation into the case is underway following which appropriate action will be taken against those found guilty.” confirmed senior police inspector Rajendra Kamble.
