Mumbai: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar Saturday reviewed the election preparation and party’s position in the 21 Lok Sabha constituencies of Maharashtra. Mr Pawar discussed the possibilities of local alliances.
Sources revealed that Mr Pawar discussed the seats, which his party would ask from Congress. There are five LS seats from the Congress quota, Pune, Aurangabad, Yavatmal, Mumbai North West and Sangli, which NCP is eyeing this time. Both parties had formed an alliance for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Then NCP had contested 21 LS seats out of a total of 48 seats in Maharashtra.
Sources said that the names of candidates for few constituencies were also discussed during the meeting. The party will field Sanjay Dina Patil from North East Mumbai, Sanjeev Naik from Thane, Vijaysinh Mohite Patil in Madha, Dhananjay Mahadik in Kolhapur, Supriya Sule in Baramati, Rajendra Shingane in Buldana and Prafull Patel in Bhandara Gondia.
There are also a few seats where two candidates are in contention. For Satara, current MP Udayanraje Bhosale and Mr Pawar’s close aide Srinivas Patil, and former ministers Sunil Tatkare and Bhaskar Jadhao for Raigad.
